KATA KERJA BANTU (AUXILIARY)

Kata kerja bantu (auxiliary) / special verbs

Yang harus diperhatikan
1. Kata ganti diikuti oleh kata kerja bentuk 1 (v1)
2. Kata dapat dipakai untuk semua subjek tanpa menambahkan s /es
3. Bentuk negative dibuat dengan menambahkan 'not'
4. Bentuk interrogative dibuat dengan meletakkan auxiliary di depan


A. CAN
a. dapat, pandai, sanggup
    ex:   He can lift this heavy suitcase
b. boleh, bisa
    ex:   You can use my bike

note: 'can' dapat diganti dengan 'be able to' yang berarti dapat/sanggup.
(+) Kevin can play the piano = Kevin is able to play the paino
(-)  Kevin can not play the piano = Kevin is noy able to play the piano
(?) Can Kevin play the piano? = Is Kevin able to play the piano?

B. MAY
a. boleh
    ex:   He may stay here
b. mungkin
    ex:   He may be lie, the file is false
c. semoga (keinginan/harapan)
    ex:   I hope you may succed

note:  'may' dapat diganti dengan 'be allowed to'
He may stay here = He is allowed to stay here

C.MUST (harus, perlu)
   ex:

•    It's raining, we must take a shelter
•    You mustn't come early
•    Must the children make noise?

 note:

• jawaban 'no' untuk pertanyaan 'must' tidak menggunaka 'must not' melainkan 'need not'
• 'must' dapat diganti dengan 'have to' yang bentuk negative dan interrogative-nya harus dibantu do/does/did

  ex:
(+) You have to leave soon
(-)  You don't have to leave soon
(?)  Do you have to leave soon?

D.SHOULD (seharusnya, menyatakan anjuran/keharusan)
ex:
(+) We should drink a lot of water
(-)  We should not drin a lot of water
(?)  Should we drink a lot of water?

note: 'should' dapat diganti dengan 'ought to'
ex: They ought to come here
